The jurisdiction losing population most quickly is Petersburg, which saw its number of residents decrease 9.7 percent from 33,740 to 30,479.
The RADCO region, which includes the city of Fredericksburg as well as Caroline, King George, Spotsylvania and Stafford counties, was the fastest growing of the state’s 23 planning districts. Its number of residents increased 27.4 percent from 241,044 in 2000 to 307,033 in 2006.
Virginia’s total population increased 8 percent from 7,079,030 in 2000 to 7,642,884 in 2006.
