The annual Spring CleanUp of county roadsides and stream banks is starting up, and as many citizens, property owners, families, friends, churches, schools, businesses and other organizations as possible are encouraged to participate through the month of April by taking the time to pick up trash and debris along roads and streams in Rappahannock County.

Participants may either use their own bags, or may get large, durable orange bags from the local Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) office, located across from the Flatwood recycling / trash transfer station off the Shade Road.

Participants may either take the bags they have filled to the Flatwood facility or to the Amissville facility, or they may contact the VDOT office to let them know where a pickup took place, and VDOT will then provide the service of picking up the bags along the roads where they have been left. Participants are asked not to take wood or metal to the Flatwood facility, and if bags are left by the road at their pick-up location, it is requested that they be safely off the rodd but not placed in a dangerous location for the VDOT trucks to stop and pick
