Consumers may be most familiar with polypropylene usage in the making of polar fleece, popular material used for clothing and household items such as blankets.
Some of the upholstery fabrics also uses these same types of chemicals. Watkins recently discovered a new seating system covered in a thick feft-like material, another product from
recycled plastic.
Natural fabrics, such as cotton, silk, hnen and wool are considered green, since these materials are grown, not manufactured. Not onty are the natural materials environmentally sound, but they also are attractive.
Natural materials are also some of the best choices far furniture and flooring.
Watkins said that, in the past, many materials, such as mahogany, were taken from the rain forests. “Now there is more sensitivity among the furniture manufacturers, and they are using plantation-grown mahogany and other woods that can be farmed.’
