the young and agile.

With a few accommodations, senior citizens can feel the sense of pride and accomplishment that accompanies the creation of beauty and bounty in the garden. For those who have not tried digging in the dirt before, gardening can awaken a whole subset of new interests, such as hard watching or cooking or joining a garden dub.

The garden can be arranged fear easy accessibility for the over-60 set. Walkways in between the beds may need to be made wider in order to accommodate a walker or wheelchair, for instance. Raised beds can be more easily tended, with less bending and stooping, and can be maintained sitting or standing. The beds themselves can be designed so that the centers can be easily reached.

Flowers and vegetables can be grown in pots or hanging baskets, and these can be attached to pulleys to make watering easier. Many vegetables and flowers - runner beans and vining plants, such as cucumbers, peas, and petunias — can be grown vertically rather than horizontally
