The Kid Pan Alley concert is set for Friday and Saturday March 23 and 24 at the Schoolhouse in Sperryville at 7 p.m.

Featured at the concert is a broad array of fine musicians: Paul Reisler on guitar; Terri Allard, vocalist and recording artist from Charlottesville, Steve van Dam and | Nat Brown formerly players in the band Everything, Will Hopkins, Chris Moyles, vocalist Linda Orfila and many other guest artists. §

What makes this concert totally surprising are the songs. This great band of professional musicians will be playing songs created by children in Rappahannock Elementary School, Wakefield Country Day School and?! Hearthstone School. And, the children will be up on stage with the band singing. The songs are funny, tender, quirky, imaginative, wild and wonderful. They have been ^ created as part of a Kid Pan Alley residency. Working } under the guidance of professional songwriter Paul Reisler, 450 Rappahannock County children have Co-cremated songs, which will now be played in concert by professional musicians.

Paul, who founded Kid Pan Alley in 1999 says, Kids I make the best songwriters. Imagine what it’s like to be a child writing a song in the classroom with a professional

: songwriter, and suppose that your song is played, is recorded by a world-class artist. You are changed forever learning about teamwork, the value of everyone’s ideas. You just might begin to think you can create songs about what’s happening in your own life instead of striking out in anger or frustration.” Paul, who leads Kid Pan Alley residencies across North American, has worked' with 16,000 children in rural communities and inner city schools. A Kid Pan Alley CD created in partnership with the Nashville Chamber Orchestra and Nashville Public Schools won the Parent Gold Choice award and was nominated for a Grammy. This week Paul Reisler and Kid Pan Alley are featured on National Public Radio’s morning edition.

Kid Pan Alley is a program of KS Theatre, a Rappahannock County based not for profit arts organization whose mission is to empower people of all ages and backgrounds to create and build community through the arts. Kid Pan Alley, one of Ki Theatre’s national programs helps kids create songs.

Kid Pan Alley started in Rappahannock County 7 years ago with a school residency that culminated in a CD of children’s songs recorded and arranged by professional artists. That CD release concert in September 2001, brought together an audience of 1000 people celebrating the power of our children and their songs to help heal afl of us after the tragedy of 9/11.

The children of Rappahannock are up on stage again with some of the same musicians who recorded and arranged the first Rappahannock Kid Pan Alley CD called Tidal Wave of Sang.

Don’t miss this concert. Seating is limited so make your reservations early. Parents and children can reserve tickets through their schools. Tickets are also available' at Epicurious Cow on Route 211 and Ben Venue Rd. and Cinema Paradiso in the TbwnJof Washington; Tickets are $5 for children and $15 for adults. All children who have participated in the workshops have free tickets, which must be reserved, through the school.

The concert is presented by Ki Theatre in partnership with Rappahannock Association for the Arts and Community. Ki Theatre receives support from the William and Mary Grave Foundation, the Virginia Commission for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts and the generous contributions of many individuals and businesses.
