Taking the fight to Dominion Virginia Power could costFauquier.a pretty penny.
Its legal bill to stop Dominion’s plans for a transmission line through portions of the county could reach $500,000 during the next three years, •according to Fauquier County Attorney Kevin Burke.
“That was the estimated impact,” Burke said.
Fauquier County Board of Supervisors Vice Chairman Ray Graham knows it may be pricey. But Fauquier has no choice but to battle Dominion.
“We really couldn’t sit back and let Dominion have free rein,” Graham said. “We think we have a good case, and well make it to the State Corporation Commission. Will they see it that way? I don’t know.”
The supervisors last week unanimously agreed to hire McCandlish & Lillard PC, a Fairfax law firm to help the county challenge Dominion’s proposal for a 500,000-volt power line through part of northern and southern Fauquier.
McCandlish will charge Fauquier $425 per hour, but will give the county a 15-percent discount, which the firm extends to government and nonprofit clients.
