Third- and fourth-graders
slowly trickle into the
learning center, an airy classroom complete with nature charts, wooden flooring and a hanging stuffed owl. After gradually settling around fold-out tables, they wait for the teacher to begin. Some sit quietly, shyly observing their peers, while others twirl and bounce on their chairs.
The children are participating in the Young Naturalist Series, a program offered through Blandy Experimental Farm and State Arboretum. Every other Saturday, program leaders Lisa Green and Emily Ford explore a new nature topic with the children through 2-1/2 hours of hands-on activities.
