flowers can grow happily in window boxes and on sunny windowsills. A kitchen window is an ideal place to grow herbs, as they are easily accessible and can be kept going all year. If the herb garden is too remote from the kitchen, weary cooks are likely to resort to the pantry shelf instead. Fresh basil, rosemary, thyme and oregano are infinitely superior to the dried stuff purchased in the grocery store; and while many stores stock packaged fresh herbs, they are intimidatingly expensive.
The winter pansies recently developed provide color and good cheer right through the worst of the winter doldrums.
