Benjamin Lee Bird of Washington was named as chairman of the Board of Directors of the Piedmont Environmental Council at the PEC’s annual meeting in Charlottesville Saturday. Bird is the first Rappahannock resident to chair the board of the council, which serves a nine-county area including Garke. Loudoun, Madison. Fauquier. Orange. Culpeper. Greene and Albemarle as well as Rappahannock.

Bird is presently serving as chairman of the Rappahannock County Board of Zoning Appeals and has an extensive background in community service and environmental advocacy. He
