My “letters to the editor” are rare these days. But after the venomous personal attacks on me in your paper over the past two weeks, outdoing by far my outburst of September 14, I will no longer endure this attempted character assassination in silence. 1 blew up when our elected chairman tried to “railroad” through the Board, from the Chair, her own motion which I perceived at once as being contrary to the first sworn duty of all School Board Members: “1. See that the school laws are properly explained, enforced and observed”. What was the true motivation behind the attacks on me you published?

In a subsequent letter to you I shall reply, in this same public forum, to your charges that on September 14, 1 maligned, slandered and traduced almost every elected and appointed official in this county. I trust that you will publish it because I believe that these public officials are entitled to a public explanation. along with other citizens, if I have, in fact, been so "reprehensible.” (For the record, not one of these officials to this moment has called or written me to express his horror, shock and disappointment!)

You published on the 23rd a letter from a Mrs. Carolyn Delevitt whom 1 do not have the pleasure of knowing. In her letter she asks, “Could you please clarify for me what possible qualifications this man has to serve on the Board of Education? (sic)”

I am allowed only limited space to answer Mrs. Delevitt; a full answer is available to her in the official minutes of the School Board meetings since July, 1979, when I was appointed. When Mrs. Delevitt has read “the record,” I shall then pose to her some questions of my own, to wit: since July, 1979:

1. What School Board member was the first and only one ever to have spent 13 consecutive days "going back to school” in every grade and every classroom in order to get the best firsthand, personal knowledge to ► do a better job on the Board?
