Walking into Courthouse Market, an old country store set just off Route 123 in Fairfax City, is like stepping into the past. The place is small and dark with rolling hardwood floors. In the back is a grill where you can get the best sandwiches — hot or cold — this side of George Mason University.
Making the sandwiches are two nice old ladies who between orders, watch the soaps on TV. The television is always on, which customers seem to enjoy. It gives them something to look at while waiting on their orders.
And you certainly have to wait on your order. Not because the two ladles are slow, but because the line is so long. Especially between noon and one o’clock.
