Embarrassing moments come on the job for waitresses, just as for the rest of us. Maybe one thing makes it worse for these gals. There is a good chance they will have a fairly large audience for their performances.
Joan usually works in the “Slave Kitchen,” not a derogatory description, but a literal one, for the small dining froom is the oldest section of the Inn, and was actually the area where the slaves lived when the site was a stage coach stop back in 1776. Right outside the door, the slaves would care for the coach horses.
Joan’s most embarraslng moment came when the room was full, with about 25 diners, and she decided another pot of coffee was in order. In taking the tray with the pot and several cups off the serving table, she caught her toe on one of its legs, and lost her balance. Before the diners, and her daughter who was working with her, she went to her knees and the coffee pot went bouncing out of the room. It made so much noise the bartender came running to see what had happened.
