Far from the Imagined ‘tough’ crowd that I had anticipated encountering, the clientele consisted mainly of middle aged to older middle class men and women, many of them local regulars, the rest, travelers passing through.
So much for my misconceptions of the diner of the 1980’s and its clientele. Plain though it may be, the atmosphere of the Frost Diner has a refreshing stability and consistency that is becoming rare in this era of constant change and so-called progress.
I’m afraid the fast food restaurants, which typify American “progress,” in the processing of food rather than simply cooking them, prepackaging almost everything, as opposed to fresh food hot off the grill, have lost at least one customer to the ‘good old days’ of home cooked, reasonably and competitively priced good food, served on real plates, in a busy but unrushed atmosphere, by a staff that still knows the meaning of friendly, courteous service.
