Irwin has met many musicians over the years, but he says one of his favorites was Ronnie Milsap.

Milsap heard his song, “There’s a Stranger in My House,” over the radio while he was abroad listening to Irwin’s program in Europe. He thanked his host profusely for playing his record. Next he expressed an interest in the equipment Irwin was using for the interview.

“What kind is it?”

Irwin told him the brand name.

“Oh,” said the blind singer. “I never saw one of those. Can I see it?”

Irwin says he handed over the tape recorder and the singer gently touched all its controls and the reels. “There’s seven minutes left,” the singer observed. “Do you mean to talk with me for seven minutes?”

Irwin assured Milsap that he would change tapes as often as needed to finish the interview and the two talked for a long time. Seldom, says Irwin has he met a star so comfortable with himself and easy to get along with.
