At the Thornton Gap entrance there were 83,600 visits this year, compared with 74,300 last year; at Swift Run 40,300 this year and 34,700 last year; and at Rockfish 56,700 this year compared to 61,800 during July, 1982. Through the various other entries 27,800 visits were made this year compared to 16,000 last year.
The total number of visits last month was 300,200. During the same month last year there were just 261,300 visits. The overnight stays were also up last month: 82,191 compared to 81,332 in July, 1982. However, the total overnight stays to date are down slightly: 214,019 this year compared to 226,078
