ting, sunning and talking. Neighbors called it the “buzzard’s roost.” Those who chose to sit on Nethers’ porch were sometimes surprised by cries of snake as the playful miller wiggled a twisted stick up through the floorboards.
A park employee came by and snapped a picture of the practical joker standing on the porch, covered with meal, cleaning grain out of his nails with knife, looking like the picture of the jolly miller. Did he like his work as miller, storekeeper, and center of the community? “Oh, he did,” Nethers remembers. “He sure did.”
