moist rooting medium and place in partial shade to prevent wilting. Rooting media, such as vermiculite, can be purchased at a garden supply store.
Be sure that the stems of the cutting are inserted onehalf to one inch into the medium. Check the medium daily to be sure it does not become too dry.
As soon as roots form, transplant the cutting to a pot containing a good house plant soil mix. In addition to such ornamental plants as coleus and impatiens, tomato plants can be started in this fashion by rooting suckers.
Starting new plants from seed may be the best way to introduce such fast-growing annuals as lettuce, marigolds and zinnias to indoor culture. Start several seeds in each pot and remove the weakest ones to achieve proper spacing for the container.
