Sam and Katherine Riley walked to the old Colbert Mill on Elk Run one winter day in February, 1980. The mill is located about IV4 miles east of Rt. 643 behind property belonging to Doug Green. Mrs. Riley wrote down what she observed and J what she had heard about the mill.
“The mill was built when the workers were paid in shillings. There was a Mr. Heflin who worked on the mill when it was being built for 16% cents a day. That is what a shilling was worth. The foundation of large stones is still intact. You can see where the shaft which held the grindstone went through the wall.
