Rev. Steven Nolen Seoggin, pastor of the Washington Baptist Church, has been chosen for listing in the 1983 edition of Outstanding Young Men of America.
Scoggin says he was “somewhat surprised” to be chosen adding that he was nominated by a colleague from Dallas, Texas who serves with him on the Southern Baptist convention.
The 28 year-old has a history of community involvement and educational achievement. Scoggin is a local pastoral counselor and is also president of the Rappahannock unit of the American Heart Association.
He was previously an intern chaplain and counselor at the invensive care unit of North Carolina Baptist Hospital at Winston-Salem. He carried out that service for one year while he was doing graduate work at Wake Forest, where he is working on a second M. A. degree in pastoral counseling. All he has left to get that degree is a thesis to write, which he says is “barely begun.”
