Estabrook tried to smooth the transition by sending the new teachers Chamber of Commerce literature from surrounding areas shortly after hiring each. School secretary Judy Atkins acted as a clearing
house to help the teachers find homes. As people have rental property available, they call her and she keeps a listing of rentals. She says as far as she knows the latest batch have all found homes and are settled in.
Five of the teachers are area residents already and two of them are returning to the system. So more than half of this year’s new teachers feel right at home. Mary “Molly” Hobson of Washington is returning following a one-year leave of absence. ■She teaches fourth grade and is a graduate of James Madison University.
Also from Washington is Kimberly Robinson, a recent graduate of North Carolina Wesleyan College at Rocky Mount, N.C. Robinson w’ill teach general math at the high school.
