Wood added that the group is currently looking for growers who can promise green beans, potatoes , melons, limas, raspberries and blackberries. Different types of membershops are offered: producers may choose to bring their fruits and vegetables into the market for others to sell rather than taking a turn behind the cash register themselves. Right now, the Small Farmers are also in the process of hiring a manager for their market, someone to coordinate the cooperative trucking operation, supply local restaurants and other bulk buyers with information on what’s available from their market and handle other supervisory and organizational duties.
“ We want this to help farmers who need a retail outlet for their produce, who don’t want to spend the harvest season - their busiest season - naming up and down the road, trying to peddle their produce," Wood said.
“And we hope our Small Farmers’ Market will have a lot of extra nice touches that will make people glad they came and happy to do business with us,” added Reynolds.
“We’re equally committed to serving the community and making quality foods available at reasonable prices,” the chairman concluded.
