It was a gray day last Wednesday as rain forced postponement of season openers for Rappahannock’s girls’ and boys’ track teams. But the sun broke through in more ways than one oh Monday as the two Panther contingents downed perennial Bull Run powerhouse, the Strasburg Rams.
“It was an excellent showing for our first meet,” said coach Ann Spieker. “I’m pleased with how hard our athletes tried.” She reported that 21 boys met the personal goals set for each by the coaching staff while 18 girls reached that same mark.
The boys more than doubled the score of their visiting opponents, winning 94 to 42. Rappahannock swept the 300 hurdles with Jimmy Freeman first in 47.7 seconds, David Fischbein second in 49.2 seconds and Richard Trebino third in 50.1 seconds. The RCHS trio of Scott Keithley, Ronnie Atkins and Will Oliver also went one-two-three in the mile while Keithley, Atkins and John Dodson swept the two mile.
