stack Race day. Seamus, a four-year-old golden retriever owned by Richard and Cindy Mahan of Slate Mills, may well win a ribbon in several catagories. He would definitely qualify for Most Handsome Dog, perhaps for Largest Dog and maybe for Reddest Dog.
Front runner, thus far, for Dog with the Most Spotted Tongue award is Molly McGolly, a black and white three-year-old female of unknown origin who appears to be a bearded collie. Molly belongs to Ray and Chris Deakins, weekenders who plan to move to Rappahannock as soon as possible.
Top contender for Most Unusual Hobby award looks like it will go to Winchester, a Jack Russell terrier beloning to Natalie Emery. Winnie amuses himself by rolling stones—having mastered a technique whereby he pushes a stone with his front feet and then attacks it. The game appears arduous since stone size leaves Winnie undaunted (he has been seen pushing and pouncing on stones 10 inches in diameter) and the stones sometimes progress less than fives inches per shove. Winnie lives with the John Ford family due to his friendshp with Duchess, the Ford’s golden retriever.
