Public comment on the question included objections from neighbor Vivian Gatewood and testimony from the pators of two other churches who felt that Gid Brown Bible Church needs more room.
Sharon Luke, who was chairing the meeting in the absence of Lee Bird, had to repeatedly caution “No arguments!” as several angry outbursts broke out between Burke and Gatewood.
Gatewood questioned the possibility of flooding in the area, whether the church holds clear title to the land and whether rest room facilities are planned for the Sunday school.
How many people would the Sunday school building house? she asked at one point.
“None of your business,” Burke answered.
In other business, the boad approved a 1984-85 budget proposal totaling $4,000. That’s up $200 from the current fiscal year.
The board will request an additional $300 to cover the cost of a court reporter to take minutes of meetings and, when necessary, provide transcipts. The meetings are taped and transcrips will only be made in event of legal action, chairman Lee Bird explained at a previous meeting.
Travel expenses were deleted from the budget because board members have not been claiming expenses when they make site inspections. However, they asked an increase in their per diem for attending meetings. Their pay would rise from $20 to $25 for each session.
The budget proposal goes to the Board of Supervisors for its consideration during budget review.

Helen Button Brown has joined Cosner and Co. Realtors in Culpeper. She has transferred from Raymond Realty, Inc. in Loudoun County, where she lived for 30 years.
Brown taught Science for 12 years at Loudoun Valley High in Purcellville.
Her husband, Jack Brown recently retired from Virginia Cooperative Extension Service after 29 years in Loudoun County. They now live near Sperryville.
