FORTY-TWO RCHS seniors and
their chaperones, Stella Johnson and Carson Johnson, had left at seven o’clock Monday morning by Trailways bus to tour New York. They were expected to return home on Thursday, April 2,1959.
The annual Cancer Crusade ran April 13-28 in Rappahannock in 1959. The Reverend H.E. Nicholson, county chairman, announced the following local leaders: Mrs. E.G. Hackley, Mrs. C.M.M. Green, Mrs. C.B. Johnson, Mrs. Frank Cary, Mrs. G.W. Smith, Mrs. W.H. Critzer and Mrs. Jack Weaver. “The importance of the Cancer Society’s Crusade cannot be over emphasized,” said Nicholson.
Rappahannock County Democratic Committee Chairman James W. Fletcher published notice that anyone planning to seek nomination for county office in the democratic primary must file a declaration of candidacy with him “at least 90 days before the said Primary to be held on July 14,1959.”
Mrs. Florence Johnson of Wood.ville celebrated her 90th birthday at a dinner party in D.C. Her children Mr. and Mrs. S.D. Dailey and Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Johnson were hosts at the celebration.
Mr. and Mrs. Vernon P. Leitch of Gainesville had recently purchased the 218 acre ''Buck Alther Farm” on the Thornton River near Castleton from Bruce Settle. Mr. Leitch, who was employed by the Veterans Administration in Washington, D.C. was planning to retire to the farm where
