Plans for the RAAC Pet Show are fully underway, reports Cindy Mahan, one of the organizers of Rappahannock’s second annual animal competition.
The show will be held Saturday, April 21, in the lot next to the Rappahannock National Bank on Gay Street after the awards in the Fodderstack Race are presented. Judging is expected to begin around 1 p.m.
Bogart, a five-year-old pit bull belonging to Steve Williams of Slate Mills and past winner of a national “Ugly Pet” contest, is the odds on favorite to take that title in the RAAC show. Banished from the county by his owner after felling a 500 pound cow, Bogart now lives with Steve’s father in McLean and has joined the swelling ranks of Rappahannock weekenders. Belying his homeliness, Bogart is blessed with a very affectionate disposition. Williams has previously owned collies, German shepherds and doberman pinschers and swears, after sharing his life with the stocky pit bull, that he’ll never again have any other breed.
