The Panthers girls also scored a sweep in distance events and relays. In the mile, it was Karen Ludwick (7:06), Marie Roemer (8:33) and Penny Atkins (8:35). Ludwick was again first across the line in the two mile, this time followed by Atkins and then Roemer. The foursome of Kathy Davis, Kelly Bristol, Shannon Watton and Raynetta Gheen took first place in the 400 relay in 58.2 seconds. Then Davis, Watton and Gheen joined with Annie Tupper for first in the 800 relay in 2:02. First in the mile relay went to the RCHS team of Denise Eidson, Ann Oliver, Kelly Bristol and Annie Tupper.

Gheen’s first place leap of 15 feet, 10 inches in the long jump bested the performances of three Strasburg boys. She also grabbed a blue ribbon in the 200 meters (30.4 seconds).

Marie Davis, contender at the Group A state championships last year, was back in the winner’s circle this season with her first throw of the discus (99 feet, 11 inches).
