Among the athletes jogging up and down Rappahannock’s back roads in training for the April 21st 10 Kilometer Fodderstack Classic is one runner who doesn’t fit into any of the usual motivational categories. She’s not running for health. She’s not running to prove anything to anybody. She’s not running for the fUn of it. In fact, if the truth be known, she doesn’t even like running.
She’s Faye Crescenti , former site supervisor for the Senior Citizens Nutrition Program and a friend of Rappahannock’s older folks.
Faye only runs one time a year and that’s in the fodderstack. As part of her “training,” before race day, she makes the rounds of county offices and businesses, buttonholing friends and strangers alike to ask for pledges. For every mile she runs, her supporters agree to give so much money for a special fund that permits bulk discount grocery purchases and pays for special trips for her special friends in the Senior Citizen Program.
