Volunteers from the Rappahannock unit of the American Cancer Society are going door-to-door this month, collecting money for the annual Cancer Crusade.
When a volunteer knocks, those asked to contribute should remember that a substantial portion of any money given comes back to the donors in the form of services provided here to cancer patients and their families and to the community at large.
The Rappahannock unit will provide money to defray the cost of transportation to and from treatment centers for cancer patients. Limit is $126 per person per year. If
the treatment center is over 100 miles away one way, the limit is raised to $225 annually. (Also included in the transportation figure is $40 for pain relieving drugs.)
