are available at the school. These should be picked up in advance if one has not been received in the mail and taken to the doctor to be filled in at the time of the child’s pre-school physical examination. Both of these records must be on file before the child enters school.
Virginia State Law states that children may enter school if they are five on or before December 31. Members of the General Assembly realized that parents would have questions about the advisability of their children entering kindergarten as soon as they are eligible or of delaying school entrance a year. They passed a law which requires schools to provide counseling for parents whose children have their fifth birthday after September 30 and on or before December 31. This counseling will be provided during the tw'o screening days or, if this is not convenient, at other times, by appointment.
In order that proper planning may be done, it is essential that all kindergarten children be registered on May 9 and May 10. At this time screening of the students as required by State law will be done.
