drilling could begin,” Paul said. “We had to move in breakdown rigs bigger than anything in Texas that could rise over a hundred feet into the air, and that had to be brought in piece by piece by about a hundred helicopter trips.”
The sites were in remote areas only accessible by air or water. “I had helicopters and boats that were always available to me,” Paul said. To make roads, Paul would sometimes have to cut off whole sides of mountains and hills. “One time I built what essentially was a floating road when I had logs sunk into the muck to make a base,” Paul said. “Then we used smaller logs on top thatched with vines to walk our equipment across on.”
