On Sunday, May 19 at 7 p.m. in the Gay St. Theatre, five modern dance pieces will be performed. They include a duet choreographed by Laura Crowne entitled “The Ground Between Us”, performed by Crowne and Sally Nash; “Expected Arrivals” and ‘Taking Away”, choreographed by Maureen Day, a Rappahannock resident who is in the dance department at VCU; and two other works by VCU dance majors - “Caged Marbles” and “Intentions of Spring”.

Civil War Reenactment At
New Market Battlefield On May 12
A strategic and unique Civil War battle, one of the last Confederate victories, will be replayed at the New Market Battlefield Park on Sunday, May 12 as it has every year in recent years.
Already more than 1200 men from some 20 states have registered to participate in this 18th annual reenactment of the 1864 Battle of New Market. Nearly half of those registered will wear the uniform of the Union.
The battle is best known for the heroic part played by the cadets of Virginia Military Institute, who fought as a unit and suffered 57 casualties out of 247 engaged. The New Market Battlefield Park, where the mock battle is staged, and its museum, the Hall of Valor, are memorials to their courage.
The battle is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. and last for one hour. For additional information call 703-740-3101.
