The Fauquier County Board of Supervisors last week unanimously approved a county program to enforce state regulations governing the use of sewage sludge as fertilizer.
The program, effective immediately, will be funded with $60 permit and $2 per acre application fees charged to companies which haul the solid byproduct of wastewater treatment plants.
County planning and zoning staff members will enforce the state regulations with spot checks to ensure haulers apply the soupy sludge properly.
