Teresa could not read, she began learning the language' in kindergarten class while taking other first grade classes. “She went through 134 books, and with Cucie working with her every night she jumped from kindergarten last year to second grade this year,” Paul said.
Paul and Cucie have enjoyed their work in the store, and Paul said that it was just w'hat he was looking for. “The store puts us into the mainstream of American life, and I like the chance to meet the local people in the store,” Paul said.
Paul hopes to someday have everything more settled so that he can begin to take part in more community activities. Right now, though, he is putting all of his time into the store and helping his family to adjust.
“I am trying to create a friendly atmosphere at the store, and I treat everyone with respect,” Paul said. “I like joking and talking with the customers because everyone is special in his own right, but some people never take the time to find that out.”
