Netters Begin Season On Friday, April 19, the Wakefield School boys’ tennis team began their 1985 season with an away match against Blue Ridge School outside Charlottesville. The team earned an overall 7-2 victory under the leadership of captain Russell Rowzie of Amissville who had a strong day winning both his singles and doubles matches. John Landis of Front Royal, David Rowzie of Amissville and Larry Tarr of Warrenton also played strong matches winning their respective doubles and singles games. Hugh Steinier of Culpeper also won his match in a hardfought singles game. The girls’ team traveled to Notre Dame Academy in Middleburg where they did not fare as well as thier male counterparts, losing 7-1. Valerie Sheinier of Culpeper had tough competition for the number one singles spot aginst Notre Dame’s starting player who was fifth ranked in Texas. Steinier arid Stacey Schliem of Winchester went on to win their doubles match.
