Rappahannock High’s Boys’ Track Team has been trying to overcome injuries during the two meets last week. The team lost their first home meet on Monday, April 15 and placed second in a meet on Wednesday, April 17 at Clarke County.
“We are having a rough time getting over injuries,” said Coach Ann Spieker. “Our top sprinter, Garri Jackson, and pole vaulter/hurdler, David Fischbein, are out with bad muscle pulls.”
Other team members have been improving their performances, though. “James Dennis is still proving an outstanding athlete capturing high places in three events,” Spieker said. “The mile relay team that James anchors along with Dexter Freeman, Jimmie Freeman and Ricky Shaw are not beaten by Bull Run District competition.”
Spieker is also pleased with the performances of Mathew' Frye and Jeff Fudd in the shot put and triple jumps. “Jonathan Watson is really coming on strong in the distance runs - closing the distance between him and senior distance star, Ronnie Atkins,” Spieker said. “He broke the five minute mile against Clarke for a personal accomplishment."
The final scores in the meet on Monday were Luray, 85, RandolphMacon Academy, 44, and Rappahannock, 41. The only first place finisher for Rappahannock was James Dennis who took first in the high jump with 5’6”.
