Coming off a l<i - 2 trouncing by Page County the Panthers had to wonder whether they would ever win again. They did not wonder long.
Last Friday night Rappahannock avenged its loss to Page by defeating Clarke. The Panthers didn't exactly blow them out though, at least not until the sixth inning. Until then the game was dead even and could have gone either way.
Jeff Porter pitched for the Panthers. Although whiffing the first two batters he looked a little shaky in the early innings. But it didn’t matter; the Panthers struck first.
The Clarke pitcher had to be more than shaky after the Panthers hit him long and hard in the first inning. Luckily for him he had outfielders in the right places.
Greg Smith led off with a long shot to right that fell just short of the woods and was caught. Porter was next in line; he hit an infield single. Then Rob Brown banged a long fly down the leftfield line that looked like a triple, but it was caught, somehow.
