will sell with instructions if the customer wants to paint them,” Zett said. “We’ll probably set up a table so that we can show those people what to do with the things they have bought, and they could actually work on the product and finish it before they leave.”
Jefferson Designs operates out of a school house in Jeffersonton where 12 people hand-paint the crafts and 22 people in all are employed. Anne Stewart is the designer. “I know that it would be possible for people to make something like one of our checker boards that even has stenciling on it in a few hours,” Zett said. “As an example, a lady who works for us originally told us that she would maybe be able to learn how to sand, and within six months she was making the checker boards.”
Peggy Smith said that there are normally about 25 crafts dealers who rent space in the Market on a regular basis during the season. There are special events, though, when the number of crafts people can double.
The Market will be open from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. for the “Country Sampler” opening weekend. The schedule of special events for the rest of the season includes: the First Antique Show of May 18-19; the Town of Sperryville Memorial Day Celebration on May 2526; the First Craft Show on June 22-23; the Summertime Festival on July 1920; the C.G. Sloan and Co., Inc. Professional Appraisal Clinic Benefit on August 18; the Second Antique Show on September 21-22; the Second Craft Festival on October 19-20 and Closing Weekend on October 26-27.
