Lottery referendum approved in county, state
The lottery issue, which had been hotly debated since it was approved for referendum by the General Assembly last winter, was easily approved by the voters statewide. In Rappahannock, it carried all districts except Stonewall-Hawthorne, where it was defeated by 14 votes. In the other four districts, voters approved it by an average of 55 percent. Nearly all — 98.6 percent — of the 2,144 who visited the polls voiced their opinion.
