“We appreciate it all,” said John Jenkins, as he took a break from working to rebuild the Flint Hill Pentecostal Church, which was destroyed in a fire last winter. Donations of time, money and materials have poured in from Rappahannock and surrounding counties. Not all the volunteers were church members - not all shared the church’s particular faith.
Now, what was last winter a charred ruin is a new sanctuary, constructed of brick but built of the love and caring which marks this community, where people of different faiths can come together to help their neighbors in a time of need.
Recently, Mr. Jenkins recited a list of some of the people who had helped the members of the church to rebuild. But first, he cautioned, “I hope that I haven’t left anybody out. If so, please know you have our thanks.”
He began to recite the names of those who had donated their time, which encompassed nearly every surrounding county:
Ashby Jenkins, of Front Royal, ordered all the materials, made sure that they made it to the job site in time, “and made numerous trips oyer the mountain to make sure that everything was going okay,” Mr. Jenldn§ said.
