The Culpeper Soil and Water Conservation District held its annual awards banquet Thursday evening, Oct. 22, at Graves Mountain Lodge, Syria.
This is the night the district sets aside each year to honor those landowners who do outstanding work in the field of conservation of natural resources. Approximately 170 guests representing the five-county district attended the dinner.
This year’s Outstanding Cooperator Award for Rappahannock County was won by Dale Welch.
Good conservation farmers fall into two basic categories. Some improve eroding or eroded land by utilizing conservation practices to prevent further damage and/or repair the damage already done. Others use good conservation methods to prevent erosion before it starts.
