Following his graduation from Rappahannock County High School next year, Tom Taylor of Castleton will carry on a tradition that’s been with his family since World War II. He will go through recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C., and become a Marine.
When he completes his training and claims the title Marine, he will join a “Band of Brothers,” not only figuratively, but literally.
Tom’s brother Mark is a Marine stationed at Marine Corps Base, Gamp Lejeune, N.C. His brother Paul is a Marine stationed at Marine Corps Air Station, Yukoska, Japan, and his stepbrother Richard is a Marine stationed at Marine Corps Air Station, Yuma, Ariz. Tom’s cousin Kevin is also stationed at Camp Lejeune.
The list of Marines in the family continues with his father Walter raylor, a retired Marine master sergeant and decorated combat veteran jf Vietnam. The family history also contains a hero, Marine Staff Sergeant Karl Taylor, who received the M&lal of Honor posthumously for his heroic actions in Vietnam.
