Some recipients of Social Security disability benefits may be misleading by a recent notice or “stuffer” included in the envelope containing their monthly check, according to the managing attorney of Rappahannock Legal Services’ Culpeper office.
According to attorney Carter Foulds, the Social Security Administration (SSA) recently sent a “stuffer” to all recipients of SSA retirement and disability insurance benefits. “A portion of the notice indicates that a recipient can earn up to $6,000 a year and still receive all their checks,” said Mr. Foulds. “This is definitely NOT true for recipients of disability checks.”
According to Mr. Foulds, the SSA notice does say that different rules apply in disability cases. “What we are concerned about is that the warning (about different rules for disability cases) appears so far from the initial statement about earnings, and is such a small, unemphasized part of the whole stuffer, that some recipients may be misled.”
