For those who want to escape the heat for a while, the Rappahannock Association for the Arts and the Community will show “1776,” a fulllength musical comedy portraying Ben Franklin, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson and other signers of the “Declaration of Independence,” at 1:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. in The Theatre at Washington, Va. on Gay Street. The special holiday admission fee will be $2 for all ages. Call 675-3193.
The Rappahannock Historical Society will present a special exhibit that day, “Rappahannock Through the Years,” at the society’s Gay Street headquarters.
The exhibit highlights the historical events in the county and features cultural aspects, such as farm life., as well.
New acquisitions of the society will be on display as well, including a 19th century list of slaves at Rosewood plantation in Sperryville, a number of 100-year-old Blue Ridge Guides, a handwritten clerk’s copy of veterans of the Civil War and a number of new family genealogies.
Also, the Front Royal-Warren County Community Band will present a free public concert at the Northern Virginia 4-H Educational Center Amphitheater at 8 p.m. July 3.
The concert, the fifth and last in the band’s Summer Concert Series, will feature an array of patriotic songs plus selections of blues and jazz numbers.
The membership of the band consists of young and old players from Front Royal and Warren County as well as Winchester, Reston, Purcellville, Page County, Rappahannock County, and Frederick County. In case of rain the concert will take place in the Randolph-Macon gymnasium.
