The drawing for the handwoven shawl, for which chances were taken to set up a scholarship to the Bacone school, was done by a guest and the winner was Zachary Sorgen who had been a visitor to this area from southwestern United States.
It was announced that Mrs. Dale Metzinger received the Eastern Division National Lineage Research Award for her outstanding Lineage Committee research work.
With reminders to fly the flag on Flag Day, June 14, and July 4, Mrs. Eastham closed the meeting until the next one on Sept. 10.
Previous to the meeting, chapter members and friends met at the Hebron Lutheran Church Cemetery in Madison to mark the grave of Virginia Rucker Crigler who passed away last November. A tribute to her, written and read by Mrs. Edgar F. Puryear Jr. stressed her vital involvement in community affairs and in her services to the Culpeper Minute Men Chapter, NSDAR, of which she was Regent at the time of her death. A wreath, made by Mrs. Walter Clark, was placed on her grave along with the special DAR marker. Mrs. Eastham as Regent and Mrs. William Nenner as Chaplain lead the honoring of Mrs. Crigler.
