Castleton sculptor Maggi Morris and the Child Care and Learning Center (CCLQ have been awarded a $2,000 artist-inresidence grant from the Virginia Commission for the Arts. Ms. Morris is using the money to hold a summer project in outdoor sculpture at the center.
More than 70 students will participate in learning how to sculpt clay masks and latex molds. The class will build a permanent sculpture by the end of the summer.
Rose Ann Sharp of CCLC was instrumental in getting the grant, said Ms. Morris.
Front Royal live music
The second Friday Gazebo Gathering will be held at 7 p.m. June 28.
A local group of musicians called Whiskey Creek Bluegrass will play a blend of mountain melodies featuring a lot of handclapping, toetapping, and singing.
The band is comprised of Kevin Johnson, Art Lispcomb, Larry Bright and Dr. Craig Zunka. The band has been playing together since 1977 and plays annually at the Gazebo.
The Gazebo Gatherings are sponsored by the Blue Ridge Arts Council, Inc., with funding support by the town of Front Royal Parks and Recreation Department.
The event is free and will be held in the Gazebo located in downtown Front Royal on Main and Chester streets.
In case of rain, the show will be in the Gallery of the Arts Council.
