meeting set as a goal having every attorney in PD-9 volunteer for the Rappahannock Legal Services pro bono program by the end of the year. If every attorney in the area accepted just one pro bono referral, service to low-income families could be expanded by more than 150 cases per year.
Currently, 59 attorneys in PD-9 serve on the pro bono panel of Rappahannock Legal Services, many of them taking three or four referrals each year. Those donating their time are eligible to receive state tax credits through the Neighborhood Assistance Act equal to 50 percent of their donated hours times an hourly rate which will be increased to $100 per hour effective July 1.
