The redistricting plan approved by the Democrat-dominated General Assembly split Fauquier County once again, this time into the 31st and 33rd House districts. And, the redistricting left Republican Del. Raymond R. “Andy” Guest Jr., who has represented the 31st District for 19 years, shoved into the 15th District in the Shenandoah Valley.
So far, although a number of names have been mentioned as possible GOP candidates for the seat Republicans allege was created specifically for Mr. Wood, a long-time Democratic activist in Fauquier, no one has officially announced.
Warrenton Mayor J. Willard Lineweaver flirted with the idea for several weeks back in April, but ultimately decided to stick with his present post, one he has held since 1974. “I’ll be mayor until 1994, and I’m not as young as I used to ,be," the t->8year-old Mr. Lineweaver said. "I decided to turn it over to the young people.”
Petty Quigley, Fauquier County’s Republican Committee chairman, said the committee is still talking to potential candidates. “The way I see it, there are maybe two viable candidates.” She said that committee representatives are meeting with members from Rappahannock and Warren counties to find a candidate suitable to all.
She said she doesn’t feel that the eventual candidate’s late start against Mr. Wood, who has been on the hustings for weeks, will be a handicap. “We’re doing it cautiously.
