Mrs. Snead’s letter praised Mrs. Thornton for “always cooperating with the schools . . . She is well respected, and has good rapport with all age groups,” the letter continued.

Former elementary school librarian Lucia Kilby also spoke in support of Mrs. Thornton.

“She taught and then served as public health nurse,” Mrs. Kilby said. “She knows firsthand the problems of the students. ”

Aileen Johnson said she had 12 other people to speak in support of Mrs. Thornton, “but that would be repetitious. We feel Piedmont District is fortunate to find one so capable.”

Vinnie Carney said, “I came here really wanting to be on the School Board, but I have worked with Mrs. Thornton in the school, and I am happy to support her.”
