Saturday, Aug. 10: Africa, the KanKouran West African Dance Troupe presents an evening of traditional West African dancers, drummers, musicians and storytellers in elegant native costume. The performance will feature the KanKouran children’s troupe, directed by Assane Konte, w ho is considered one of the world’s foremost choreographers, teachers and performers of African dance.
Saturday, Aug. 17: Ebenezer String Band and Professor Tuckahoe, two wonderful family bands. Ebenezer is a five member string band (the Ross family) from West Virginia whose members range in age from 5 to 35 and whose lively music reflects the family’s wide range of musical interests. Professor Tuckahoe’s Minstrels is a four member ensemble (the Ayers family) performing (in period dress) music that would likely have been heard here in Virginia in the 19th century.
Saturday, Aug. 24: Big Nite Out, from Motown to the McGuire Sisters, this seven-member group from Philadelphia rocks, bops and swings with the best. Righteous rhythms on guitar, sax and percussion; outstanding vocals from three outlandish ladies.
